Meet the Founder

A Personal Welcome

Before we speak about courses, food forests, tropical living, or the Academy itself, I would simply like to welcome you.

Thank you for taking the time to walk this far.

If you have arrived here, it is probably because something within you is searching.

Perhaps you are searching for a different way of living. Perhaps you are looking for greater autonomy, a closer relationship with nature, or simply a life that feels more coherent with who you truly are.

Whatever has brought you here, I hope you feel genuinely welcomed.

The Tropical Homestead Life Academy was created for thoughtful people who believe that another way of living is possible. People who are willing to question familiar assumptions, remain curious, and patiently learn from the living world.

Before becoming your mentor, I wanted to introduce myself simply as another human being who has spent a lifetime asking many of the same questions you may be asking today.

Everything you will discover throughout this Academy was born from that lifelong search.

My Story

Before we continue our walk together, I would like to tell you a little about the journey that eventually led to the creation of this Academy.

Every Academy has a founder. Every founder has a story.

This is mine—not because it is extraordinary, but because it explains why this Academy exists.

Looking back, I realize that the questions shaping my life began much earlier than I understood at the time. I wasn't searching for a career. I was searching for a way of living that made deeper sense.

While many people simply accepted the world around them as it was, I could never understand why people simply accepted the way communities and society were organized. I found myself constantly having ideas of how it could work better.

I was naturally drawn toward living systems. Plants fascinated me—not only because they grew, and because I found them beautiful, but because they revealed patterns, relationships, and quiet forms of intelligence that most people seemed to overlook. They became my first teachers, patiently showing me that thriving is never accidental. It is always the result of many elements working together in harmony.

That curiosity eventually led me to study plant food horticulture and later soil conservation. I wanted to understand not only how individual plants could flourish, but how entire ecosystems could sustain life over generations.

Yet, even as my knowledge grew, I sensed that my deepest questions reached beyond agriculture itself. I wasn't simply interested in producing food. I was searching for something larger.

I wanted to understand how people, landscapes, architecture, food production, and community could become parts of one coherent living system, and above all, how they could do so within beautiful, harmonious, and inspiring environments.

The Turning Points

As my understanding of living systems deepened, I found myself looking differently at the environments we had built for ourselves.

Suburbs and cities often appeared to me as places where human life had gradually become separated from the very ecological systems that sustain it. The disharmony was difficult to ignore.

Where others saw neighborhoods, I instinctively saw possibilities. Every street, every building, every unused space invited the same quiet question:

"How could this work better?"

I began imagining communities where architecture, food production, ecology, and daily life were no longer treated as separate disciplines, but woven together into one living whole.

Instead of increasing dependence upon increasingly complex corporate systems, I imagined communities capable of gradually returning to cooperation—with one another, in greater freedom and with nature itself.

The answers I was seeking could no longer be found in books alone. They had to be lived. I needed to place myself inside ecosystems where abundance, cooperation, and regeneration were not theories, but everyday realities.

The more I explored those ideas, the more one conclusion became unavoidable. If I truly wished to understand regenerative living, I needed to experience environments where life itself expressed greater abundance. That realization naturally drew my attention toward the tropics.

As someone deeply passionate about plants, food production, and outdoor living, I felt increasingly called to explore tropical ecosystems—not as a visitor, but as a student.

After years of exploring tropical regions beginning in 2005, I discovered Ometepe, Nicaragua, in 2016.

What I expected to be another learning experience quietly became something much deeper. Each visit strengthened the feeling that this was where my next chapter belonged.

In 2020, I returned intending to spend only three months continuing my studies and practical experimentation with tropical permaculture. Life, however, had other plans.

That temporary journey suddenly became a permanent one.

Looking back, I no longer see that choice as a sudden change. It was simply the next logical step in a path that had been unfolding for many years.

The vision of creating a land-based community where human flourishing and ecological flourishing become one had already taken root in both my mind and my heart.

Moving to Nicaragua was not the beginning of that vision. It was the moment I finally chose to begin living it.

Why I Created the Academy

People occasionally ask me when I decided to create the Tropical Homestead Life Academy.

The truth is that there was never a single defining moment. The Academy did not begin as a business idea. It emerged naturally from a lifetime of curiosity.

Every subject I had felt drawn to study—plants, soils, ecology, food production, natural systems, community design, architecture, education, and human development—appeared at first to be separate interests.

Only much later did I recognize that they had all been guiding me toward the same purpose. I wasn't collecting knowledge. I was gradually learning how thriving spaces are created.

Today, one expression describes that lifelong journey better than any professional title ever could:

Thriving Space Creator.

That simple idea unites everything I have explored throughout my life.

Whether designing a food forest, imagining a resilient community, studying living systems, or mentoring future homesteaders, I have always been pursuing the same question:

"What conditions allow life—in all its forms—to truly flourish?"

If my story resonates with you, it may be because you've been asking similar questions in your own life. Perhaps that's why you've arrived here today.

The Academy is simply the natural continuation of that search.

It exists because I believe that knowledge becomes most valuable when it helps others create places where people, communities, and nature may thrive together.

Everything you will discover throughout this Academy grows from that single intention.

Thank you for taking the time to know the person behind the Academy. Now that we've met, I invite you to continue exploring the Campus and discover how that vision becomes a practical learning journey.

My Philosophy

Over the years, I gradually came to understand that my work was never really about plants. Nor was it simply about agriculture. It was about understanding the conditions that allow life itself to flourish.

Plants taught me those lessons first because they never pretend. A thriving plant immediately reveals that its environment is supporting life. A struggling plant quietly reminds us that something within the system requires attention.

The same principle, I discovered, applies equally to people, families, communities, organizations, and entire civilizations. Thriving is never created by chance. It emerges when relationships become harmonious.

That realization slowly transformed the way I looked at everything. Instead of seeing isolated problems, I began seeing living systems. Instead of searching for quick solutions, I learned to observe patterns.

Instead of attempting to control nature, I discovered the extraordinary results that become possible when we cooperate with it.

This philosophy eventually found its expression through what I now call Human Ecosystems.

Just as forests become resilient through countless relationships working together, I believe human lives also flourish when our homes, food systems, communities, values, and daily choices become integrated into one coherent whole.

Beauty also became an essential part of that understanding. Nature rarely separates function from beauty. The healthiest ecosystems are often the most beautiful ones.

For that reason, I have always believed that the places where we choose to live should nourish not only our bodies, but also our sense of wonder, peace, and belonging.

Creating thriving spaces has therefore become much more than a profession. It has become the lens through which I understand life itself.

Everything taught within this Academy grows from that philosophy.

What I Hope We Build Together

Knowledge has always been important to me. But knowledge alone has never been my destination. Transformation has.

My hope is not simply that you finish a course or acquire new skills. My hope is that you begin seeing the world differently.

That you learn to observe before reacting. To design before building. To cooperate before controlling. To recognize that genuine abundance grows from healthy relationships rather than endless consumption.

If, somewhere along your journey, you begin creating places where people and nature flourish together, then the purpose of this Academy will already have been fulfilled.

Every thriving homestead begins long before the first tree is planted. It begins within the person who chooses to imagine a different future.

If this Academy can help strengthen that vision within you, then we will already have accomplished something meaningful together.
